Jack Sweeney has more than 30 years of medical experience, much of it at leading orthopedic hospitals and clinics. He joined Desert Orthopedic Center in 1996 and currently assists Dr. Robert Murphy with general orthopedic care of the knees, hips and the back.
A native of New York City, Jack began his career as a paramedic and emergency room technician in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1970-72. After leaving the military he worked as a surgical orderly and then a surgical technician. In 1976 he earned an associate degree in the orthopedic physician assistant program at the University of Southern California – Cerritos College.
He was a surgical technician at Los Angeles Orthopaedic hospital from 1974 to 1978. He then was promoted to MicroVascular Laboratory Director in 1979, a position that provided him the opportunity to teach microvascular students.
He then became the research coordinator for the Bone and Connective Tissue Research Program at the University of Southern California Orthopedic Hospital from 1979 to 1987. Jack also was an orthopedic physician assistant for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group from 1987 to 1990 and at the Boyes Hand Group in Los Angeles from 1990 to 1992. Prior to joining Desert Orthopedic Center, he worked for an orthopedist in Long Beach for three years.
