Joy M. White, M.D.
joined Desert Orthopedic Center in July 2002, expanding the team of specialists
at the Comprehensive Spine Center which includes physiatrists, spine surgeons,
a rheumatologist and an acupuncturist. She came to Desert Orthopedic Center
following her residency at VCU Health Systems in Richmond, Virginia. A native of Lakewood, New Jersey, Dr. White knew she wanted to be in the medical profession after working in a pharmacy as a teenager. She discovered in medical school that what she enjoyed most was working with patients in rehabilitation. The specialty of physiatry, also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation, helps people with acute and chronic back and neck pain, as well as stroke and accident victims. It alleviates pain and returns them to an active and productive lifestyle. “Physiatry offers a different approach. We help empower and educate patients to get their lives back, to control their pain,” comments Dr. White. Dr. White earned her Medical Degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. She is a past recipient of the Foundations of Clinical Medicine Award for Outstanding Achievement at the Medical College of Virginia. She served her internship at VCU Health Systems. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; and the Riverside County Medical Association. |
